Legal Question in Family Law in California
sharing custody
I just had a baby and the baby's father, my ex boyfriend, lives 2 1/2 hours away. So far he has been coming to me to see the baby but if he wants to start visitation and take the baby home with him at what age does my child have to be before he can do that. I want him to be involved in his son's life but he's to young to be without me right now. Thank you.

Re: sharing custody
There is no magic age for more extended visitation. That depends on the whether the child would be safe and secure and the ability of the Father to care for the child. You and your ex-boyfriend may save yourself a lot of attorney's fees if you were to hire a counselor that is familiar with co-parenting issues. It may cost $75 per hour or more, but that is cheap compared to paying two attorneys to fight it out in court. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
