We have a scheduled mediation in a family law court next week. The other party paid he was not going to show! should I still go and is there a penalty for him not showing?

You should still go. It will work in your favor to show up. It will look bad for him in court that he didn't show up. There usually isn't a penalty. Sometimes the judge will send the party to mediation right then at the time of the hearing, and then have the hearing afterwards.

You still need to go and give the mediator your side of the story. You never know the other side might still show up?
