Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am single and have a newborn daughter. The father left before I found out I was pregnant and we have had no contact in nearly a year. Meanwhile I have an elderly great grandmother who lives in Tel Aviv Israel that I want to take the baby to meet. I'm told I can't get a passport for my baby without the fathers consent. If there is no father in the picture,he has never signed anything and I didn't put him on the birth certificate how do I go about getting my baby a passport and remain within compliance of California state and Federal law?

Take the birth certificate and go apply for the passport.

You only need the father's consent if he is officially the father, either by declaration of paternity, or court order, or you were married at the time, which is not the case for you. I believe Mr. White is correct that you should be able to get it with a birth certificate showing no father. If not, get back to us and someone should be able to look into it further for you.
