Legal Question in Family Law in California

Single parent child custody laws

I am single, but my child's mother and I are living together. I would like to receive custody of my son, however I think that she will move to another state before I can try anything legal. Can she do that? Even if she gets custody of our child, can she move away for personal reasons? (not work or school related)She has never worked a day in her life. Will that help me get custody in any way? Thank you for any information that you could provide.

Re: Single parent child custody laws

Unless you go to court and getting custody order, either parent would be free to take a child and move anywhere in the world.
