Legal Question in Family Law in California
I am a single women 8 months pregnant. The father I found out was engaged to another women at the same time as me so we are no longer together. I have not seen him in months but he says he is going to fight me on everything once the baby is here. I am in LA county Califrnia. What are his rights to the baby? Do I have to call him at the hospital? Do I have to give the baby his last name or talk to him about names at all? How much costody or visitation will he get in the first year?

There are no pre ordained requirements on how to address parenting without specific orders from the court. With that being said, you and the child will have (for better or worse) a lifetime relationship with the biological father unless his parental rights are terminated. Approach your management of this situation from the standpoint of what will be in the child's best interests. Even though you no longer have a romantic relationship with the father, an age appropriate parenting relationship should be developed if there is nothing to suggest biodad would be a hazard to the baby.follow your heart and retain the services of an experienced family law attorney to explore your legal options.
