Legal Question in Family Law in California

sister needs help

my sister is in a bind.. He ex and mother took her custody some yrs ago of her kids. However they got back together. Broke back up and the kids have been with her ever since. Abt six yrs now. She has been doing very well for herself and taking care of them. She finally got the courage to take them to court for custody.They returned an answer and out right denied the childern have been living with her! It has been six yrs so where have the childern been living all these yrs? She has school papers etc. The only thing I can think off is that her ex is looking at the time that he was living with her and is looking at that as the childern not ''living'' with her but with ''them''. But she enrolled them in school with her address and he was not on her lease so they were living with her. I take it that that they have told an un-truth and they know that they did! He does not call the kids or help her or vist and had the nerve to say he wants to share custdody. What will the courts do?

Just need to go to court with proof of what the truth is. I would retain an attorney if you want to ensure that she doesn't lose custody. Not that that is a guarantee, but you want to make sure to do this right. It's difficult to go back and re-do it once it has been done.
