Legal Question in Family Law in California
Situation: a friend, currently going through divorce, had her belongings shipped across the country to where her soon-to-be-ex husband lives/lived (he is now active duty military in Afghanistan). He broke it off with her, and when she tried to get his address information he refused to comply or would simply not answer. His attorneys claim they could not reach him. This, among many other things, caused her to be unable to file the divorce paperwork on time, even with an extension and a new court date. Now she will either lose everything, or will have to pay to have it all shipped back. Is he legally allowed to do that?

A lot of things happen in divorces that are just plain mean. That being said, your friend needs to make arrangements to have her belongings returned to her at her expense. She should then discuss with a family law attorney how to make a claim for these costs as part of the divorce proceedings.
