Legal Question in Family Law in California

I'd like to get sole custody for my four-year-old son. His father and I never married, and he never supported us financially. Lately, his father dropped out of touch and he lives in another state.

Is there anyway to DIY sole custody? I can't seem to get a hold of him anyway.

To achieve the outcome you seek, you should file a petition for paternity and with that pleading, file a motion for sole legal and physical custody as well as child support.
