Legal Question in Family Law in California

Sole Legal - Mexico Vacation

I am a father of a 12-year old boy. I just signed new court documents giving me sole legal custody of my son and I also have primary physical. The mother has visitation 1-day per month - that's it. No summer vacation or anything.

My sister-in-law owns a home in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and vacations there frequently. Now that I have sole Legal, do I have to get the mother's permission to take him on vacation to Mexico? Or am I allowed too without her consent?

Re: Sole Legal - Mexico Vacation

Do your orders state that you cannot take the child out of the State of California without the permission of both parents? If you have sole legal and physical custody you should be able to take the child on vacation in Mexico. However, out of an abundance of caution you should at the minimum, inform her in writing that you are taking the child to Mexico for a vacation.
