Legal Question in Family Law in California

If i have sole legal and physical custody of my 7 year old, does his father have the right to add my son to HIS health insurance? He is in Oklahoma (I am in California and have been for 7 years) with only 2 x's per week phone contact. Nothing else. My son currently has 'state' health insurance and has been with the same doctor his entire life. I don't want to change it, but he and his attorney are pressing the issue.

Why wouldn't you want your son to have the extra insurance coverage? Typically the courts would require that the child be covered by both parents under their health insurance policies. They may want you to have the son enrolled under a private health insurance policy to alleviate the burden on the social services.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
