Legal Question in Family Law in California
My son is 5 and his father whom is on the birth certificate has not seen, contacted, nor paid support for the child in 4 years. What is the quickest way to remove his rights from him? Isnt there something called abandoment?

Yes, you can file for an abandonment termination of parental rights. Because that also terminates parental responsibilities, however, the courts are very reluctant to issue an abandonment termination except when part of a step-parent adoption. This is because they want to have someone on the hook for supporting the child if you die or are otherwise unable to care for him, or have to obtain public assistance at any time. So you have to make very sure all the requirements are met and that you dot all i's and cross all t's in everything you do in the abandonment case, because if the court can find a reason to rule against it, the court most likely will do so.
