Legal Question in Family Law in California

My sons father is trying to lower child support by stating that he no longer earns the same income as before. He has been with the same woman for 11-12 years. They have 3 adults living in the same house, all working (himself, his "girlfriend", and her mother). I know he is working on the side, with his girlfriend under the table, and is not claiming it. Is there such a thing as commonlaw marriage in california, and if so how long is it?

There is no such thing as common law marriage in California. Even if there was, I fail to see how that would be relevant to an Order to Show Cause to modify child support.
