Legal Question in Family Law in California

My son's father and I worked out a visitation agreement that will not be beneficial for my son in the near future. I have sole physical custody and we share joint legal custody in CA. The father lives in CT. When my son turns 5.5 we agreed to have my son go for the entire summer (plus one week each of the other seasons). I want to ask to have the summer visitation changed to one month until he turns 13 and then the whole summer if he chooses to at 13. My question is: How good are my chances of this being allowed? I cannot afford an attorney, as I am living on a low-income.

I hope you have family that can help you hire an attorney because trying to do this yourself is frought with peril. The court focus will always be in the child's best interest. Sending your son at such a young age and for such a long time in the summer may be too difficult emotionally for him. Parenting plans should be no further out in design than a few years simply because much can happen in the parents and the child's life.
