Legal Question in Family Law in California
spousal support
Long story short: While I was in jail in 1997, my divorce became final and my x had my spousal support stopped. The paperwork said I could have it reinstated when I was released. In order to preserve the peace I was experiencing with my x, when I was released in 1999, I did not have it reinstated. Now that I can't seem to find a job and I have used up all the money from my settlement, I want to have my spousal support reinstated. It was suppose to last until I got married or either of us died. He is making a very large amount of money and he recently remarried and is spending an awful lot of money. I am concerned about our 2 daughters' college tuition. There won't be any if he continues to spend like he is. If I can get my support back, I can sock some of it away for them - just in case. Not to mention the fact that I really need a little money now. Considering it's been 6 long years, what are my chances of a judge reinstating my spousal support and would I need a lawyer for this?

Re: spousal support
If there is such a spousal support stipulation in your original dissolution judgment, then you would have proper standing now to have your support reinstated as described therein. You can do this on your own, however, you should at the very least retain attorney assistance so everything is done correctly. For a free phone consultation, contact us directly today.
