Legal Question in Family Law in California

spousal support reduction

Please tell me if my husband, absolutely, positively must have a lawyer to request a reduction of spousal support in the county of Merced, State of California.

He did not need one to have child support reduced but for some reason they are telling him that he needs one for spousal support. My husband has recently been put on permanent disability for PTSD. We are going to get a power of attorney so that I can handle his affairs for him because there are times when it is too over-whelming for him. We have ZERO money and only make it month to month with finincial help from our families. We truly cannot afford a lawyer. We have asked her twice in writing if she will allow the courts to stop but she will not respond.

Re: spousal support reduction

Your husband has a constitutional right to represent himself. However, if he cannot do so, for physical or mental reasons, he will have to have a lawyer. You cannot represent him. Have you contacted a volunteer lawyer program or modest means panel? Call the local bar asso.
