Legal Question in Family Law in California

Spouse hiding money

I am afraid if I divorce my husband will not be honest with the finances and I will end up with nothing. Married 23 years, children over 18, I am severly hearing impaired. I have no money. My husband bought a 2.3 mil building several years ago. He moved his practice there. I guess he had to use our house to buy it. I know nothing about the finances. He says he cannot afford to buy me hearing aids. We have never had any joint accounts that I know of, if we do I don't know where they are and would be afraid to use them. I no longer have a personal account, no money. He gives me $350 month for household expenses (kids live home still). Food, gas, pet food, personal items, sundries. Last week he flew to visit his mom and bought her a computer.

What can I do to protect myself? I do not want to tell him I am going to an attorney, only to give him time to coverup and hide money. I also do not want to get him suspicious. He would make my life worse.

Being partially deaf, would he have to help support me if I left? I am so afraid of being left with nothing.

Re: Spouse hiding money

After 23 years of marriage he would be required to pay spousal support. Further he would have to pay for your attorney fees.

You should contact an experienced family law attorney in your area and discuss you situation with that attorney.
