Legal Question in Family Law in California

ssi benefits for dependent children

I was wondering how my daughter's father has been receiving ssi benefits when he owes me 11 years of child support? ( case on file w/ D.A. since 1988 )He lives w/ his parents and pays no bills. Why is my child not eligible for ssi benefits? He has no plan on getting a job even though he's quite capable of working. His "disability" was determined to be mental.

Re: ssi benefits for dependent children

It may be that your child IS eligible for benefits. Have you applied? The eligibility may also be retroactive. The amount of benefits your child receives from SSI will be an offset against the support owed by the father.
