Legal Question in Family Law in California

How do I start an adjudication of parentage in California( my state of residence) to issue a court order to my birth state(New Mexico)to change the name of my father on my birth certificate? I am not a minor.

Go to the civil court desk of any county court building. They will have forms for this. There are several ways to establish parentage, but the best way is DNA testing. You can do this using a lab known to the courts. You would probably (I am not positive about this, but a call to New Mexico or their web site...of the family courts would confirm) need to go to the New Mexico courts to get an order to change the birth certificate there. You would go there armed with the dna proof of parentage.
