Start by contacting the "Family Law Facilitator" or "Self-Help" office of your local Superior Court's Family Law division. I would also recommend you get a copy of "How to Do Your Own Divorce in California," by Nolo Press. Lastly, as you go through the process if you start feeling like you may be in over your head doing it yourself, it means you are in over your head and should contact an attorney for at least some paid consultation.

You can get most of the forms you need online, for free, in a fillable format at the California court's website. http://www.courts.ca.gov/forms.htm

I agree with Mr. McCormick, and if you insist on doing it yourself, Nolo's book is probably the best. You can find a copy at most law libraries, and even some public libraries.
