In the state of California is there a formula to determine child support based on income?

Child support is a function of income, as well as other factors, such as the percentage each parent has physical custody, insurance payments, special needs, and many other factors.

The short answer is "yes." Your child support contribution is calculated under a formula based on "net income" of both parents, percentage of custodial time, and number of children. As with so many things, though, the devil is in the details. In this particular case it is in determining what the legal net income is. And that can be very complicated and, although governed by law, is not a forumula by any means.
