In the State of California is it legal for an ex-spouse to contact one of my previous employers to find out information?

In California, there is nothing to stop anyone - ex-spouse or other - from contacting your employer. Your employer, however, has restrictions on what information it can give out about you. With one very notable exception, if your divorce is completed, your ex has no greater right to information from your employer than anyone else.
That notable exception is for obtaining support. For example, a spouse has a right to attach the earnings of the ex who is ordered to pay support. In that case, your ex would need to forward certain documents to your employer.
