In the state of California. Is it legal for my ex-wife to tell people I'm going to harm her and other people?

If you have asked that your ex stop defaming you either through slander or libel and she continues then you may need to file some type of action to restrain her from spreading lies about you.

So to answer your question, no it is not legal for someone to lie about you. You should ask that she stop in writing and ask that if she does not stop that you may have to seek legal action to stop her from defaming your character.
