in the stateof california who pays the extenses in a child vistation if one parent lives out of state?

Most commonly it is shared 50/50, but the court can order otherwise if there is a large difference in income or other factors that make 50/50 burdensome or unfair. This should be covedred in the custody and visitation order if you have one. It is something to make sure goes into the order if you don't have one yet.
