Legal Question in Family Law in California

Status.....

My fiance and i have lived together since August 2004.Is there common law status that would descibe our partnership?I've heard some people describe it as ''common law'' marriage.We're thinking of finalizing our relationship and i'm just curious about the term.Please respond.
