Legal Question in Family Law in California
well my stepdad hit me causing bloody nose a busted lip and a bruise at the corner of my eye...i am only seventeen..him and my mom said he just pushed me...when the cops got here i told them that..i just ticked my mom off she started choking me and when i tried getting out her grip he tought i was hitting her, so he went on to grabbing me and started pushing me out the door..i turned back and pushed him and his reaction was his hand to my face...they asked them the story and even my mom said he just pushed me and they told the cops i was the first to attack..they asked if i'd like to press charges and i said yes..and when they asked him if he'd like to press charges..what could they charge me with? why would they even ask him that?.. shouldn't they have arrested him for the simple fact that he left my lip busted and making my nose bleed?..I mean you really think a push gave me a bruised eye, bloody nose and busted lip?

"and even my mom said he just pushed me and they told the cops i was the first to attack..they asked if i'd like to press charges and i said yes..and when they asked him if he'd like to press charges..what could they charge me with? why would they even ask him that?"
Well, even your mom said you were the "first to attack." So, they could charge you with assault and battery, too.
As far as your stepdad, an outside observer could say he was just defending himself when you pushed him back. A person has the right to self-defense if attacked, you know.
With this one, it's just going to come down to whose story is more credible, you or your stepdad and mom.
