Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am a step-parent. My husband pays child support for is kids from a previous marriage. Can his ex-wife go after me or our house for child support if my bank account and the house are im my name?

She cannot go after you per-se. Equally, she does not go after a person's property either. The exception is if your husband is in arrears (not paid his support). In that case, the other party can go after any property, real or bank that may be in your name either singularly, or jointly with anyone else.

That is not a very good answer from Mr. Schneider.

Although your husband's child support obligation predates your marriage, the rule is that all of your husband's separate property and your community property can be looked at to satisfy a judgment. So the issue is whether your house is community property. Title alone does not satisfy this determination, as he may have deeded his interest to you to evade creditors.
