Legal Question in Family Law in California

does stepparent mean legal guardian

I am divorced from my children's father and we have both remarried in the past few years. Does becoming a step parent make you the legal parent or guardian of your spouses children? Do you as a stepparent have the right to sign legal documents for the children? I didn't think that just by marrying someone that you were given legal carte blanche with their children from a previous marraige.

No, becomming a step parent give you no legal basis to make decisions regarding step children. If you have issues regarding your specific situation, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
