Legal Question in Family Law in California

I'm struggling...what can I do?

For the last ten years, I was taking care of my infirm dad 24/7. He passed away and now I am living in a converted garage and working at a fast food restaurant. I eat one meal a day at the fast food place, and the days I don't work, I don't eat. I'm on a very tight budget and have no savings and certainly have no checking account or charge cards. I have a small B&W TV that was given to me, I make calls from a pay phone if I need to call anyone, and I use the library a lot.

My children are 18 and 20, but I owe over $30,000 in back child support including interest. I'm afraid to go to court about getting it reduced because I cannot pay AND I'm afraid I'll be thrown in jail.

Can you help me?

The only way you can get some relief from this situation is to go to court. From the description of your life jail may be a step up for you. There you would get three meals a day, clean sheets and medical treatment.

The approach to be used depends upon who the support is owed.
