Legal Question in Family Law in California

I might be summons to court regarding a domestic violence and spousal abuse case. I fear for the safety of myself and my family and would like to plead the fifth. I worry that I will be pressured to answer questions that I would not like to. I would like to know my rights as an American citizen. Please, advise as soon as possible.

As I understand your question, you will be called as a witness at a trial regarding domestic violence. As a witness you must testify truthfully in answering a question. You can plead the fifth only if your answer would somehow tend to incriminate you. You should consult with an attorney regarding your options.
