Legal Question in Family Law in California
Teens rights
I have a friend that is 16 and in a bad home situation. His mother at the least verbally and mentally abuses him eg.-''You're fat, ugly and worthless and I can't beleive any one would actually want to talk to you''. That was said while I was on the phone with him. I don't know if he gets hit or not. School isn't good for him either and between that and home he's getting depressed and suicidal. They live in a small town where there is nothing like a Y.M.C.A. or kids group for him to join. My mom has offered to let him move in here until he graduates from high school in 2 years but his mom won't let him just move out. He's afraid to call child protective services because he doesn't want to be put in a foster home. Does he have any rights to choose where he wants to live? Thank You.

No he cannot choose where he will live until he is 18. If he is depressed and suicidal calling cps could save his life. In small towns cps is often less likely to remove him from the home
