Legal Question in Family Law in California
Term of child residency relative to court jurisdiction 4 custody
My friend has raised his 7 year old son for the first 6 years of his life in California. The boy went to Nevada with his mother for the last year, but is now home in CA with the father who is pursuing custody. What is the required term of child residency immediately preceeding the filing of the custody papers? If those requirements have not been met, will the case need to be brought to Nevada?

6 months residency in the jurisdicion. If the child was absent from the jurisdiction due to concealment or visitation, then you might be OK, but a year-long "visitation" would be a bit unusual don't you think.
You indicated the child was in Nevada for the "last year". When did he return? If by March, 2000 you may proceed in California.
