Legal Question in Family Law in California

termination of parental rights

I am a single mom and the father is acting as if he doesn't want to see our baby until she is older (trying to skip out on the baby stuff) I was told that if he voluntarily goes so long without seeing her or having contact with her that I could chose to have his rights terminated. Is this true and if so how long of him not being around before I could do something like that?

Re: termination of parental rights

Califonria law provides that if a parent does not have contact with and does not provide any support for 12 months the court can terminate that parent's parental rights. However, generally the court will not terminate parental rights unless there is another person who ready and willing to take on parental responsibilities.
