You can contact the district attorney's office in the county inwhich you presently. That DA will locate the other parent. If the other parent does not live in California, the proper authorities in the state of residence and request that they obtain an order for child support.
Re: Texas divorce
If you contact the District Attorney it may take you years to get child support. You should be able to start receiving the child support in as little as one or two months with a private attorney and it should not be an expensive process. Also, you will have very little say or control over the proceedings through the district attorney. You will make up for the attorney's fees very quickly with the child support. If your ex-husband still lives in Texas and the judgment reserves jurisdiction over the issue of child support you will need to file in Texas, but you probably do not need to go to Texas if you have a Texas attorney. E-mail me at [email protected] and tell me 1.) What your judgment says about child support; 2.) What State your ex-husband currently lives in: 3.) Whether and when your ex-husband has ever lived in California or whether the child was conceived in California. I can tell you where you should go and what needs to be done, at least to get started. Do yourself a favor, don't go through the DA until an attorney who is familiar with your case advises you to go to an attorney. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
