Legal Question in Family Law in California

I was told that my husband and i have to file bk (have debts unpaid and in collection accrued during marriage) before i can file a do it yourself divorce, is this true? add info. we have been separated for over 2 years now and we reside in California. Please help and let me know if this is true. thanks

Most people divorcing never file for bankruptcy protection. It depends on your unique financial circumstances.
