Legal Question in Family Law in California

can I travel with my son without ex-wife authorization?

I live in California. I am a French citizen, I legally

reside in the Us since 1991. I have one son (6years old)

I would like to take him to France for a vacation

(1 week in May 2000). My wife and I are separated

and undergoing a mediation process. Nothing has been

signed yet, but when we discussed in presence of the

mediator, we agreed that I could take him to France

for 7 days in 2000. We did not specify any time frame,

but we said that it would be better to take him to

France during the summer. But I would like to take him

in May. My question: do I have to ask my for her

authorization if I want to go to France with my son for

7 days in May? My son resides 70% of the time with her

and we have decided to have joint custody.

You should ask her for permission. Why not?

You can go without asking as long as there is no court order forbidding it.
