Legal Question in Family Law in California
I have a trial set in 6 days, I know this is short notice but very important because I have already used all of my resources. I cannot make the trial date for family law in the case of child support/half of daycare expenses/ and vehicle costs from a divorce. I have requested a continuance and the other party will not respond. I have talked to the clerk, family law division, and pro bono lawyers and because I now live in TX and the court trial is in California no one has been helping they all say "hire an attorney" if I could hire an attorney than I would be able to afford a flight and hotel. I need to know what to do just to get this extended until I can get together enough money or get a job in the mean time to save for a lawyer for further trials.

You can request a continuance ex parte and appear telephone to get more time. Also there are attorneys available for as little as $600 to do a one day trial.
I don't agree with the previous answer that you can seek a continuance "ex parte", because that implies that the continuance would be granted without notice to the other side. However you can seek a continuance &/or ask to appear by telephone.
Mr. Thorgaard should stick to his own jurisdiction. In California you can make family law motions "ex parte." You need to call the Family Law Facilitator's office in the county court that the case is pending and ask them for help.
