Legal Question in Family Law in California

TX common law marriage recognized in CA?

Assuming a person was involved in a common law marriage in Texas, then separated from his/her common law spouse and moved to a state that does not normally recognize common law marriages, like CA. without obtaining a legal divorce in Texas. Does CA. recognize the Texas common law marriage?

Re: TX common law marriage recognized in CA?

If the common law marriage was valid in TX, then CA will recognize it here. CA will recognize any marriage that was valid in the jurisdiction in which it occured, except for those against public policy or state or fed law (eg: incest, very young spouse, gay marriage).
