Legal Question in Family Law in California

U.K. divorce in California

I am American, now resident in California. I married in England to a British man. We lived in England during the marriage. He is still resident in England. We have been separated 11 years. Can I file for divorce in California? If not, where? Thank you.

Yes, you can file for divorce here in California. However, depending on what contacts your spouse has with or in the state of California, the California court will be able to grant you a divorce but may not have jurisdiction over things like spousal support or marital property. If you'd like to discuss the case in more detail, please feel free to give me a call. I will not charge you for the call.
