Legal Question in Family Law in California

uncontrollable teens

I have a 17 year old daughter that tends to leave and disappear for days at a time, and comes back like nothing, and when she comes back she doesnt want to follow rules and when i try telling her the punishment she ignores me or talks back, i am a single mom of 7 children and i am tired of the comotion, my son is 16 and gets drunk all the time and i have called the cops several times, what is my option on my 17 year old, can i have her emancipated, she always leaves and puts the family thru distress.

Re: uncontrollable teens

The teens cannot be emancipated unless they are self supporting...legally self supporting. You could, but I would highly recommend against, turn the kids over to CPS on the theory you cannot control them. This decision would, no doubt, come back to haunt you, as CPS could decide to take all your children instead. CPS is generally not the friend of parents, and thinks it is their job to make a parent's life miserable.

You have serious teen issues and decisions to make about what you can do as a parent to try to get them back under control. If you don't changed something about what you're doing, you probably have these problems with you other children as they get older.

Emancipation of the minor is a rare process that the minor requests and they need a showing that, among other things, they are self supporting. You can't by your choice shed your parental obligations.
