Legal Question in Family Law in California

Unofficial foster care reimbursement

A childhood friend of my sons was placed in foster care, he is 15 1/2. Another mother took the child and became his official foster mother. Because of her living situation, I was asked to help out with the child. It was apx. 36 days the child was in my care and I paid for his expenses. The foster mother (FM) told me she had not received any money from the state for his care, I told her no problem I would help out. I later found out, from the biological parents that she not only received money from the state but also and additional $550-$650 from the childs biological parents. I asked to be compensated for his time at my home at $15.00 per day, based on food only not other expenses (utilities, movies etc.) She refuses to compensate me as she said I did this out of the kindness of my heart. True in the beginning when I thought she was getting no support and that the state payments were delayed. When I found out, she continued to lie about how much and said we would discuss it later. There was no written agreement. I need to know if I have a case in small claims. There is more information but this should give you and idea. Thank you.

Re: Unofficial foster care reimbursement

I would suggest that you report this to the agency that handles foster care. They can then assist you in getting the funds that you are owedd. You could sue her, however, that would cost you, maybe more than you would receive from her. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
