Legal Question in Family Law in California
Unprofessional Paralegal
My parents are in the process of obtaining guardianship of their grandson. The paralegal they are using has been giving the the runaround for almost 1 year. She comes up with every excuse in the book, as to why she has not filed the papers with the court. They have paid her some money, but are very frustrated as to the excuses and her unprofessionlism. They would like to report her or talk to a person above her, and they are considering asking for all the money back, that they have paid her. She initially told them that it would take 6 weeks to complete, next month it will be 1 year since they started the process. They jump whenever she calls and get her money for things she said that she needs to file the papers. Can you offer any advice onhow to handle the person, and what recourses do they have?

Re: Unprofessional Paralegal
Paralegals such as the one your parents went to cannot practice law. Your parents would do well to get an attorney to accomplish their goals. Call me directly at (619) 222-3504.
Re: Unprofessional Paralegal
If you ahd a heart attack would you go to a doctor or a paramedic?
You don't need to answer the question -the answer is obvious.
Why then, when the future of a child is at stake, would you even contemplate using a document preparation service. These services are not entitled to practice law and are not entitled to give legal advice.
My strongest recommendation for you now is to hire an attorney to help with the guardianship.
Regarding the 'paralegal' perhaps you could initiate an action for breach of contract or other such action - possibly in small claims court.
