Legal Question in Family Law in California

unsure about divorce

I was married to someone in the military in 2001 we filed for a divorce and i am uncertain if it is finalized or not. I am unsure where he is. I filled out my paperwork 3 years ago and i havent recieved anything else. I am wanting to re marry but I am unsure how to find if this is final or not. please help

Go to the courthouse where the divorce was filed and see if there is a judgement in the file. You can find the file by going to the index and looking for the file number by last name. Then check the file out and read the file.

You can either go to the courthouse and check the physical file to see if a Judgment has been filed, or depending upon the county that the case was filed in, you may be able to access the information by going to that superior court website. Each County offers different information and access in their respective web site, and some offer case summaries which would give you the information you are looking for.
