Legal Question in Family Law in California
I had a verbal agreement with my boyfriend when I purchased a house that he would pay 1/2 of the mortgage payment and 1/2 of the bills. He then commited adultery with a married woman and moved out and now refuses to help me with the house payment and bills. We have nothing in writing but have witnesses who will confirm that he agreed to these terms. Can I sue him for this?

If your bf was never on the mortgage and never on title, then he has no ownership rights to the house nor does he have responsibilities for the house. If you are the sole name on those documents it is your house and your responsibility. You should get roommates if you need assistance with paying the mortgage and bills. Unless you were married then you can't ask that he reimburse your payments on the house after the separation. You are responsible for the money but if the house appreciates you also get all of the equity that appreciates.
For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.
As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
