if the father is late picking up the kids on his day what can i do?

Normally you would give him a reasonable time to get there. Often 20 to 30 minutes unless he has a long drive to pick them up. Also some additional latitude is given if he calls to notify that he will be late and has a good excuse. After the passage of 20 to 30 minutes after pickup time you should go ahead with your plans for that time. If the problem is chronic then you should change the pickup time.
