wage garnishment
I amt thinking of filing an ex-parte application today for child support/alimony . Is this basically automatic. I understand you do not even have to have reason to have it deducted automatically. He is 14 days late, but usually 3-6 days late. How does this work?

It is not clear from your question whether there is an existing order in effect. If there is, then there is a federal wage assignment form you can have the clerk of the court sign that you can give to the sheriff that will cause the father's wages to be automatically deducted. It is that easy, you do not need to file for an ex pate order. However, if you do not already have an order, then you will need to file a OSC for support and maybe a Petition to Establish Parental Relationship.
