Legal Question in Family Law in California
I am wanting to get custody so that I can leave the state of California with my child. He is 2 years old. I need to be in NY where we can have a safe,happy, and loving environment. We do not have that here, and it is in the best interest for us to be with my family. What are my first steps of doing that?

You've left out a lot of information needed to answer your question, such as 1) whether you and the other parent are or ever were married, if not whether paternity has been established, 2) whether there is any existing custody and support order and if so what it says, 3) what is the status of the child's relationship with the other parent, etc.
