Legal Question in Family Law in California

Wanting to sign over fathers parental rights

I am currently 8 months pregnant, the father has not participated since conception. He has recently started calling. He is constantly asking me to let him sign over his parental rights. I would like to know what this means. I do not plan on filing for child support, and I would rather him stay out of our lives. Is there such a form he can sign to keep him out? We were never married. And how will this affect my son should he want to look for his father one day? I do not plan on listing him on the birth certificate.

Re: Wanting to sign over fathers parental rights

Based on info provided, you need to seek counsel in person with a competent attorney. You need to consider involvement of the father and without re consideration for the child. If you've already done that or after you do, you will then need to make the determination as to what is best for your child. No one else can do this for you. What your child then does later in life will be guided likely by the parenting you provided.

A release of the father's rights to the child is probably not enforceable. However, it could be very helpful on the issue of visitation.
