Legal Question in Family Law in California

Welfare Reimbrusment arrears

My fianace has been paying 50% of his income for both his current support & afdc reimbrus arrears for the pasted 5 years on his twin boys. (what is really sad is that even with paying 50%, his balance continued to grow because it was never enough to cover the court order)His boys have now turned 18 & are out of school. He is still looking at a balance of well over $70,000 between two counties. They have continued to take 50% of his pay. Is there any way to lower these amounts? The total amount? The payment amount? The interest alone is over $250.00 a month, on the one statement. We live in Nevada and his orders are from La county & Orange county in California.

How is it that a perfectly healthy and able body woman can not work a day in 18 years, collect afdc and all of the repayment falls on him? Please say there is atleast a ray of hope for him? I honestly do not know how much longer we will be able to keep a roof over our heads. My pay check is the only thing keeping our family from living on the street. The struggle has us both so depressed, all we seem to do is fight and cry. Please stear us in the right direction, if there is one.

Re: Welfare Reimbrusment arrears

Contact the counties in which the accounts are held and ask for a compromise. It may be possible to compromise the accounts based on the extreme hardship collecting it is placing on your family.
