Legal Question in Family Law in California

Welfare Reimbursement & Interest question

I recently settled my arrears with a lump sum to the childs mother and have been current on my support order. Question is this. I apparently owe $13K in welfare reimbursement & $12K Interest on that amount. What recourse or reduction can I apply for or get? I want to settle this debt, but the interest is absolutely ridiculous! PLEASE HELP!! Thank you in advance. This whole ordeal has been a nightmare!!

Re: Welfare Reimbursement & Interest question

Other than paying the arrears there is no legal recourse unless you can set aside the original order. If

you think that is a possibility you should contact an attorney. Arrears constitute a judgment and the

interest is at the legal rate. My experience is that the Department of Child Support Services will not

compromise the amount owing for a payment in full, but you could always ask. Good Luck, Pat
