Legal Question in Family Law in California
My wife was born with a specific name, for example Darlene Smith.
Going through foster care and an incomplete adoption, her name was changed, for example to Darlean Jones (Note that the first name spelling was different). She functioned in life as Darlean Jones until marrying me (changing her last name to mine).
Therefore, there is no legal link between her birth certificate name and the name she used in life or, of course, her new married name. That missing link is now posing issues in the area of US passport matters, etc. Question: What action or process can be taken or completed to link her current name back to her birth name?
Thanks for input.

She can do a civil name change from her birth name to her current married name. Information on how to do this and a link to California Judicial Council free forms are available on my website.
